William Ritchie plus Battle of Thousand Islands

Haliburton County pioneer William Ritchie plus The Battle of Thousand Islands

Show notes

This week, Kate tells the story of William Ritchie who came to Haliburton County in the late 1800's and had a significant, but largely behind-the-scenes role in the early days of the community - despite the fact that his tenure only lasted a few years before migrating to the west looking for more land. Plus, Paul talks about how the first truly world war - the 1760's Seven Years War - was fought partly in North America and forever changed the continent. One of the key battles was in the Thousand Islands in the St Lawrence River at the east end of Lake Ontario. It was a stepping stone towards the French ceding their North American colonies to the British.
