In recognition of International Women's Day, today it's about 2 cases of women who stood out in the historical record.
This week, Kate talks about Janet Bain - a governess and teacher in the early 1900's Haliburton County plus Paul talks about Rose Fortune of mid-1800's Anapolis Royal. Both of these women stand out in the historical record through being unconventional. Rose in particular because she was a woman and black, yet managed to create a successful business at a time when her colour and sex made it highly unlikely. And she's arguably the first female police officer in North America.
