Child's reminisces of the Dominion Hotel plus Canada in the Boer War
This week, Kate brings some reminisces from a child's view of a Minden landmark - the Dominion Hotel in Minden. This time it's comes from Mildred Mortimer memories from around 1915 when her parents owned the hotel. It shows some insights into life at the turn of the 20th century. Her memories are recorded in Susan Wilson's book 'Explore Haliburton'. Plus, Paul has a very brief history of the origins of the Boer War and Canada's involvement. It took place only 32 years of Canada's birth as a country and roughly a decade before WW1. Canada punched above their weight in the Boer War with mounted soldiers, artillery and 12 nurses and earning numerous medals including 5 Victoria Crosses and raising the young country in the world's view.
