Back to School in the Early 1900's plus From the Highlands Clearances to the Red River Colony

Show notes

This week, Kate talks about school in Haliburton County circa 1908 and Olive Robertson - an 18 year old school teacher in a 1 room schoolhouse (the Moon school) outside Haliburton Village. Plus, Paul talks about Lord Selkirk's humanitarian efforts to relocate poor Scot and Irish tenant farmers displaced by the Clearances - and the unitended impact when indigenous and Métis found themselves displaced and their way of life disrupted as a result.
