An 1896 Family Tragedy plus John Graves Simcoe

A memorial stone reveals a tragedy that claimed 5 pioneer children in 1896 plus John Graves Simcoe - a villain or a hero?

Show notes

This week, Kate talks about a memorial stone dedicated to 5 pioneer children in Essonville (part of Haliburton County) who succumbed to diptheria - all of them separately over the period of roughly a month in 1896 - and the other 3 children and the parents who survived. Plus, Paul talks about Canada's first Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe and how he was portrayed in the Netflix historical/fiction series "Turn: Washington's Spies". Was he the villain the Rebels thought he was, or was he a British & Canadian hero?
